Chapter 2
+200 Years
+6.17 °C
-6,214,410 Species

Global Temperature has increased by 6.17 °C from year 0, even worse than the RCP 8.5 pathway from the IPCC AR5 report in year 13. This causes the sea level to rise 2 metres, many countries entirely flooded, and most land area becomes desert. Around 6,214,410 Species (~60%) of earth's species have been extinct. Human population reach 10.9 billion.

Human Inhabitance

For humans, only the northern band (Alaska, Canada, Russia, Northern Europe, Greenland), and tiny bits of land in the south, and western Antarctica are inhabitable. There is increasing poverty and a widening gap between the rich and the poor due to the massive amount of climate refugees. All settlements become much denser, while the countries that turned into deserts raged war against the countries that are still inhabitable in order to gain a small territory to survive with their own culture.

China, Japan, and Korea have set up the Eastern Asia Union, and signed a treaty with Russia to occupy a part of their inhabitable land, while providing technological and infrastructural support for Russia. The Southeast Asian, Middle East, and African people has moved down to Antarctica, while South American countries have moved up to Canada or down to the area close to Antarctica.
Most existing cities and infrastructure from year 0 will no longer be usable, and are transferred towards the poles or abandoned. There are increasingly less places to grow plants while outdoor spaces become quite dangerous to stay in. The few remaining in the human settlements in deserts have to wear special protection uniform in order to not be burnt, while an underground city remains as an expansion of the transportation and infrastructure underground before year 0.

Language

English language still exists and remains to be the dominant language due to the thrive of North America and Nothern Europe. A lot of new vocabulary is added while most words from the past are kept. Grammar has changed a lot and continuity in expression has become irrelevant. Chinese language also still exists due to their mass population, less vocabulary is being added, but ideas adopted from other languages are more prominent.

Technology

AI and robotics have become much cheaper and are now used in every industry replacing workers, producing more with less land. Virtual Reality becomes very low in price. People still browse the large database of the internet and World Wide Web, just with more high tech equipment.
